"I tend to compress everything to some degree when tracking, so I can get some thickness and depth at source. This is why Iím keen on using a valve front end, so I can introduce a controllable amount of valve character on the way in.

Having captured the sound on hard disc, Iíll then often use plug-ins to further compress individual tracks during mixdown if necessary. Iím all for using both hardware and software in tandem with each other in this respect. And now with the 5052 in my setup I have the ability to use valve processing on my stereo mix as well ?this is something Iím just starting to do now."

"TL Audio is really all about creating character in sound, and for me there is nothing like miking up acoustic instruments and using valve technology to create something real and characterful. I really like the way as a company you have built in the notion of slightly abusing the units to get the best out of them ?that really appeals to me!

Originally I used to track everything through a basic analogue mixer and thought everything sounded fine ?it was only by actually plugging TL Audio boxes in that I became acutely aware of how much better things can sound."
