Cauldron Studios in Dublin is one of the latest commercial facilities to invest in a TL Audio VTC console, helping to establish it as one of Ireland’s most unique recording locations.
The studios, which boast three live rooms, are the brainchild of top session guitarist Bill Shanley and busy freelance engineer Ciaran Byrne. Located in central Dublin, the studios provide a base for the duo’s own recording projects as well as hosting recent sessions with Mary Black and U2 engineer Richard Rainey. Complementing the 32 channel VTC is a 32 track ADAT system coupled with 48 tracks of hard disc, providing a classic example of the perfect marriage of analogue and digital technologies.
Commenting on their choice of console, Ciaran said:
"I just love the sound of the VTC. It’s big, fat and wide, and because the EQ is so warm I find myself dialing in a wide bandwidth and just piling it on - with other consoles I’d be constantly backing it off. When we opened the studio we also installed a small digital mixer to handle some potential mix automation duties, but the VTC has worked out so well that the digital board has sat in the corner gathering dust!"
