"I tend to compress everything to some degree when tracking, so I can get some thickness and depth at source. This is why I’m keen on using a valve front end, so I can introduce a controllable amount of valve character on the way in.

Having captured the sound on hard disc, I’ll then often use plug-ins to further compress individual tracks during mixdown if necessary. I’m all for using both hardware and software in tandem with each other in this respect. And now with the 5052 in my setup I have the ability to use valve processing on my stereo mix as well ?this is something I’m just starting to do now."
