Music production is not an easy task. A lot of effort and hard work goes into recording a track, and these superhumans working hard to ensure that it comes out well hardly ever get the recognition needed.

Regardless of how tasking music production can be, some people have managed to do it and excel in this line of work. Some of the very best producers we have in the world today include:

  1. Quincy Jones

Not every day do you get to see a producer with 79 different nominations for the Grammy Award, but Quincy did that. Quincy could take home 28 different awards for his work from these nominations. Obviously, Quincy had to be a genius. How else would he have worked with the world-famous Michael Jackson on not one but three different memorable albums, including Bad and Off The Wall?

Quincy’s talent does not just end as a music producer because this man also produced film scores for hits like The Italian Job and Cold Blood, just to name a few.

Quincy is such an impressive producer, and from the few achievements listed here, you can tell that he deserved his Academy Award nomination, and he was also the first African American to get that.

  1. Dr. Dre

Dre is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment. If you are conversant with entertainment history, you know this label birthed legendary names like Eminem, Lamar, and 50 Cent. With legends like that in the picture, you know that DR Dre is not a name to be toyed with. As a producer and even a solo rap artist, DR Dre has had more success in the entertainment industry than most people, and his work speaks for him greatly.

  1. George Martin

You might not know the name George Martin, but you certainly know his work as he singlehandedly created some great albums for the Beatles, most of which were hit songs that received awards. These songs include Soul, Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Revolver. The Beatles was not the only band that got to witness Sir George perform his magic. This amazing veteran also produced for the likes of Jeff beck and Cheap Trick. There’s hardly any song produced by this talent that did not perform well, and if anything, it was evident that Sir George was great at his job. Though he left the world in 2016, his legacy lives on.

  1. Rick Rubin

The only right word that can be used to describe Rick Rubin is “Genius.” Because of his genius production skills, he created hits for big names like Kanye West and Tom Petty. It is safe to say that he singlehandedly increased the popularity of hip-hop music in the 80s because all people wanted to hear then was music produced by him. It’s no surprise Rick was eventually named one of the 100 Most Influential People in The World in 2007.

  1. Nile Rodgers

Nile Rodgers’s credentials might just be one of the most impressive ones on this list because this man did a thing with music in his days. Nile has written and produced tons of records, selling over 500 million albums worldwide. He has also sold at least 70 million singles, and his work is just amazing. Everybody Dance is a chic hit that many people know worldwide, and this genius, alongside the famous Bernard Edward, produced it.

  1. Susan Rogers

Susan grew up in southern California. However, moving down to Hollywood could pass as the best decision she ever made, as that was when she discovered her love and talent for music. Working at the University of Sounds Arts also further pushed and motivated her to become a sound engineer and producer, and she did that excellently. In 2021, Susan won her first award of Outstanding Contribution to the UK Music at the Music Producers Guild Award.

  1. Linda Perry

4 Non Blondes was an alternative rock band that had so much potential. However, they only released one album together before the group disbanded, and Linda was one of these four blondes.

Though the alternative rock group ended, Linda did not let her dreams in the entertainment industry die, and she kept pushing. Eventually, this amazing woman formed two different record labels, producing songs for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Pink.

Later in 2015, her contributions to the entertainment industry were recognized as she got inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

How your song is recorded goes a long way in determining the final quality of your track. You can have the best ideas, lyrics and vocals and see that the execution of all these eventually fails after the music is recorded. This can happen even if you choose to record it yourself or visit a studio, and the reason is the way it was recorded and the software used for the recording will make a big impact.

These days, the internet has made life easier. Many things which we had no option but to pay for before can now be self-executed by simply going through the internet. Many musicians who have released great tracks in recent times hardly had to go to the studio to achieve that. They knew what they wanted to achieve with their music better than anyone and knew just the right software to help them achieve that. Of course, not only software is of great importance for good sound, but also high-quality devices such as laptops and computers that you can buy, for example, with a CCL discount code.

Still, the most remarkable software will record your music in the highest quality possible, in ways that you will find difficult to complain about. If you are looking for some options to try out, this article reveals five great ones.

  1. Pro Tools

It is safe to say Pro Tool is the best recording software of 2023, as there are absolutely no limitations when using this software. The only limitation might be the fact that it is not software that can be used by just anyone, as it is mainly for professionals. Amateurs might find it a little overwhelming.

  1. Logic Pro X

Logic Pro X is the perfect recording software that is good enough for professional producers. There is almost no feature that you cannot find on this software. With Logic, you can comfortably record anything from beats to electronic instruments, and it even has a mixer. Other nice features include the smart drummer and the live looping feature. You can get access to this software cheaper on Samsung devices, which you can buy profitably with Samsung voucher codes.

  1. GarageBand

GaageBand is another recording software that understands the mission perfectly. It is quite similar to Logic Pro X as they have a lot of features in common, including the sound library, synthesizers, instruments and samples.

However, GarageBand remains a tuned-down version of the Logic Pro X as it is more or less for amateurs who find the Pro x difficult to navigate. Regardless, it is still good enough for recording and even supports life performances and can even be accessed for free if you on a MacBook as it is a macOS software.

  1. Ableton Live

This is great for recording your samples but is even better during live performances. With Ableton Live, you can record and play back your recording in the traditional linear arrangement or in a non-linear timeline as you choose. There is also the option to listen to your recording on a loop, record the output simultaneously and even layer it with as many elements as possible. This makes it one of the most flexible software on the list, making it easier for you to edit your recording as much as you’d like. An advantage this software has over others on this list is that it is cross-platform and can be put to use on both Windows and Mac software. promocodius.co.uk discount codes can also get you cheaper access to many features of this recording software.

  1. Audacity

Audacity is free software and is the only one on this list that is not a DAW. However, it has several pros which you might enjoy, especially as a beginner. Starting with the limitations of the free software, live mixing is not supported, and the options for native plugins are very limited. Finally, the software was not designed to handle multiple tracks per session.

The major attraction of this open-source recording feature is that it is free, which beginners can use to rehearse and learn the basics of recording before stepping up to better software that is paid for. By learning the basics of music production with this software, it becomes significantly easier to find your way around more advanced ones.

The fact that Audacity is free also does not mean that it is of low quality, as it supports high-quality audio, making it possible for you to produce great industry-standard recordings.

Music is a crucial part of our life since the days we hear sound for the first time. It can influence our mood, support and inspire us. Scientists say that the power of music is so strong that it can tell us who to love.

Just 54% of men looking for women admit that they can date somebody with a “bad” music taste. With women, the situation is even worse. Only 46% of ladies would consider a second date with a guy whose music preferences they can’t understand at all. Let’s take a closer look at how our feelings and music correlate.

Music is a popular topic on a date

Scientists found out that in a meeting with a complete stranger most people start their discussion with a few popular topics, including music preferences. Even movies, books, and hobbies are often secondary to favorite tunes. Actually, music preferences tell much more about a person than the books she/he reads or the movies he/she watches. Studies show that discussing music is an intimate topic to a big extent.

Music is a part of our identity

Nolan Gasser, musician and musicologist, says that music helps people to highlight their identity. In childhood, we show that we are different from our parents by finding our own music tastes. Do you remember annoying your mom by listening to hard rock?

At the same time, music preferences are influenced by our childhood memories and culture. A baby starts to perceive rhythms even from the first months. The tunes we listened to in our childhood stay with us as we grow up. They give us a sense of comfort and home.

An ex also can also influence your music love. According to science, 35% of singles try to avoid particular music if it makes them recall their previous relationship.

Being open about your music preferences makes you more attractive

Taking into account how important music is for a person, it is quite natural that music likes and dislikes can impact your attractiveness for the partner. Studies show that people prefer partners who disclose their love for a particular genre to those who don’t have taste at all. Men looking for women on dating websites have more chances of finding a match even if they are fans of very masculine genres, such as hard rock or heavy metal. Perhaps, the clue is in trust that we can build with a person if he/she is ready to share quite intimate info with us. We know what to expect from a person and can relax.

Some music genres can help you find love

Scientists discovered that men and women consider different music preferences attractive. Men looking for women say that an ideal woman would love classic rock, alternative, rap, hip/hop, or heavy metal. Classical music, pop, jazz, and other genres are less favorable. Women, in turn, find sexy the preference for hip/hop, rap, alternative, classic rock, pop, indie rock. So men looking for women should pay attention to hip/hop, rap, alternative, and women should be ready to put on leather jackets and go to a rock concert at least once.

It is also proved by studies that couples that both enjoy the same music genres, be it classic rock, jazz, or folk, rate their relationship satisfaction at a very high level. It is not enough to pretend that you like some music. True feelings will arise between you and your bae if you are really ready to hear the world in a similar way.

Less popular tunes can even harm you

Studies show that the preference for country music can make both men and women less sexy in the eyes of their potential partners. Korean pop, easy listening, latin, reggae, and blues are also not that popular according to researchers.

Men need musical match more than women

According to science, men are more willing to speak about their preference for particular music genres on a date. In addition, men looking for women often subconsciously choose a partner based on these likes. So a matching music taste can easily make a woman more attractive to a guy. At the same time, women don’t pay too much attention to musical compatibility and consider it secondary while choosing a partner.

What do you think about the connection between love and music? Do you think that music can influence your partner choice?

Music preferences can affect our feelings towards other people and our choice of a partner. Researchers found out that a man seeking a woman is usually quite attentive to how well their music preferences match. Though women are often less picky about music taste, they also find particular music preferences sexier. Our love for music can determine whether we will divorce or live happily together (check our previous post for more info).

Well then, why do we like particular music? And can we change these preferences? Let’s find out.

How do we perceive music in general?

While melomanes would say that some music genres are more sophisticated and demonstrate the skills of performers; average listeners would speak about the emotions that music can evoke; science stays more precise and less romantic.

Scientists say that we perceive music in a similar way as we understand speech. Listening to music is not only a nice experience for us but also hard work for our brain. While we chill out, the brain is engaged with emotional and rhythmic processing. A study by David Greenberg revealed that our brain type and thinking style have a direct influence on the music we like. In general, scientists distinguish 3 types of people:

  • Empathizers or people who value thoughts and emotions;
  • Systemizers who understand rules and systems better than others;
  • Balanced or those who focus equally on thoughts and systems.

Empathizers usually prefer low-energy songs. They value emotional depth and can listen to sad songs and soft rock. Systemizers would rather choose structured tones, be it intense heavy metal or soft classical music. Balanced people have a more vague range of preferences and can act like two other types in different situations.

Another study focused on finding a link between music and personality types. Scientists found out that open and extroverted people like classics, blues, jazz, and folk. Their natural curiosity and the desire to explore makes them less rigid in music preferences.

If our personality is so linked with the music we love, it sounds natural that more and more dating apps are introducing music-sharing features. A man seeking a woman judging by her music taste (and vice versa) will actually find a person with a similar personality.

How can mood and memories affect our music preferences?

Have you noticed that sad thoughts often encourage us to listen to sad music? It can sound illogical, but people in depression also prefer sorrowful tunes. Somehow depressed people feel more relaxed if they don’t listen to upbeat music. Do they cling to their depression subconsciously? Scientists explored this phenomenon and found out that listening to sad music can increase prolactin and oxytocin levels in your blood. These hormones evoke feelings of calmness and relaxation, which is what depressed people are looking for.

Our memories can also affect music preferences. For example, the songs we listened to in childhood can evoke the feeling of safety and help us relax. Some music can remind us of our ex and hence can be painful after we break up with somebody. So, the worst first date scenario is when a man seeking a woman (or a woman looking for a man) turns on a romantic song that the potential partner associates with the previous relationship. It makes sense to check such things in a safe environment before a romantic day.

Do men and women hear music in a different way?

Though there is still no scientific proof that men and women understand music differently, you can sometimes hear a biased theory that women are more empathetic while listening and men have a more intellectual attitude. In fact, there is really some difference between men and women in terms of preferred music genres. Classic rock, alternative, rap, hip/hop, or heavy metal appeal to men. And the majority of women choose hip/hop, rap, alternative, classic rock, pop, and indie rock.

In addition, similar music tastes help the couple to develop a stronger bond. So, good advice for a man seeking a woman (or vice versa) is to check what music the potential partner likes and try to understand this genre.

Can you learn to love music that you hate?

If we all hear the same sound, we can learn to like a different music genre as well. Actually, scientists from Australia found out that people usually dislike music that they are less used to hearing. For example, music from a different culture can irritate you just because of the unfamiliar sound pattern. Our brain simply finds it hard to interpret, like foreign words.

However, if a person learns about the music structure and keeps listening to it over and over again, the brain starts to decode unfamiliar music. This means that the love for a particular music genre can be taught. So, if there is some man seeking a woman (or vice versa) with particular music preferences, he or she indeed can learn to love the favorite music of his/her bae.

Would you change your music preferences for the sake of love? Do you share music tastes with your soulmate?

Numerous online casinos https://canadianonlinecasino.bet/ have been launched recently. In-game sounds and music are an important part of the modern gambling experience, just as they are for online games. Gambling providers are looking for professional sound studios with significant experience in developing this type of product.
The evolution of the online casino market
The market for games and applications is well advanced; the industry has grown to become one of the most profitable in the world. Providers of online slots and casino games look for new ways to make their product stand out from the crowd and increase profits, while traditional providers make sure they stay competitive by constantly renewing their offer and enhancing equipment. It’s getting harder all the time to keep track of what your competitors are doing. The main factor distinguishing one product from another is sound effect – not only do modern players expect sophisticated sounds but many go as far as saying that it’s the sound that creates an impression about whether or not a game/slot/application will be attractive or interesting for them personally. The choice of appropriate sound effects is a significant challenge for providers. By signing contracts with well-established sound studios, this task becomes easier.

As you can see from the chart above, there are many companies who provide sound design services to clients around the world. The problem is that many of these studios are not familiar with requirements peculiar to online casinos for slots in general. We are one of those few studios that have been working exclusively on products for gambling operators since 2004. Over time our studio has become an integral part of production processes at various software houses and equipment manufacturers by creating sounds recorded at the highest possible quality levels so much so that today we’ve become their preferred partner when it comes to recording certain types of sounds or voice overs – especially the ones required by the online games market.
Sound effects
It’s common knowledge that traditional casinos have been using sound effects for many years now, but they’ve been progressively replaced with modern technologies such as those used in computer games. In addition to those sounds provided by gaming equipment, increasingly more effort is invested into creating unique sounds and music suitable for all types of applications – from regular slot machines, through video poker and table games up to highly sophisticated casino solutions.

In general, our partnership began when we got a request from a software development company which was developing an online gambling solution based on 3D graphics . They were looking for a studio that could create all necessary sound effects specially tailored to their specific requirements: they needed the complete set of sound effects consisting of various sound effects reflecting specific aspects of the online gambling process. For example, they needed sounds for attractive bonuses, poker chips, cards rustling when being dealt, the “ding” of winning combinations or sounds designed to attract attention to certain symbols which are easily recognizable by users.
When developing games you have to provide players with all the information they need just with a glance at their screen. A bell indicates that someone has won something during the game, whereas a siren is used to play an important role in attracting players’ attention to extremely large wins or jackpot levels. Those are only small examples of what kind of work needs to be done when building up sound effects for online casino games – there’s much more!

Best online casino offers high-quality sound effects for digital slot machines and casino games.
In the process of creating sound effects for their products they constantly need to consider various factors – from sound specification, through its duration and intensity to selecting a satisfactory background sound. In order to make sure all those sounds work properly at a given time, there’s a need to create a number of different versions which vary in length and intensity levels depending on the situation. For example, if you have 100 bells played consecutively, it may be appropriate to play them as loud as possible one after another but that would certainly not suit playing just one bell every 10 minutes as part of some hidden bonus feature! Special care also needs to be taken when recording voice overs: no matter how talented your actor is,he will not be able to deliver an accurate and well-sounding phrase if you don’t provide him with a proper script where every word is clearly defined.
In addition, players have become more demanding as far as sound effects are concerned: they expect the sound to be of high quality so that it reflects the character of each specific game. If you open up any slot machine on the market today, even those equipped with traditional spinning reels, you can hear all kinds of different sounds which reflect on screen action – from bells, sirens and other typical casino sound effects through various soundtracks designed to accompany the user’s playtime. Slot machines producers invest a lot into innovating their products on a regular basis just because they know how important good sound effects and music really are – especially when it comes to attracting new players!
Conclusion
Although modern technologies such as those used in video slots allow you to create anything that comes into your mind, there’s still no replacement for using real sound effects rather than synthesized ones. The latter ones may be sufficient when creating some background sounds but they’re simply not suitable for realistic sound images. Even if we take the example of a simple poker game where all you need is a set of sounds related to chip stacking or putting cards on the table, their quality needs to match up with the high level of today’s online casino solutions.

It is that the music can actually affect the player’s emotional brain more. If they are playing online casino games https://canadianonlinecasino.bet/ with happy music it will make them more excited and they will also be motivated to play longer which will increase their adrenalin level.

A high adrenaline level makes the person feel happy because of increased dopamine level which is a neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure sensation. The ability to produce enough dopamine is sometimes hampered due to some factors like depression, stress or tiredness. This could also be fixed by taking medicines formulated for treating these disorders but again regular intake of this medicine may lead to addiction problems. But if you are able to get this same effect by listening to your favorite music then there would not have been any addiction related problems associated with it.
Negative effects
What about the negative effects of playing online casino games? The details of recorded music may also affect players more intensely because there are some records that have messages which might not be good for reasons like addiction to casino games or any other reason. All these messages can get stored in the brain and if they become repetitive then it will create some effect on the player’s brain which will be difficult to undo later on.

Therefore, while selecting recorded music for playing online casino games one should always look out for messages associated with these songs so that you don’t get trapped at any point in future due to your wrong choice of music record. Better safe than sorry is the best policy when you are willing to play online casino games at the casinos.
For music lovers, playing online casino games can be a great way to pass their time by listening to recorded music from all over the world. But this entertainment is for a limited period of time. So, if they want to achieve success in this business they have to do some research and gather information about the top online casinos that are available on the internet.

After going through all their reviews and rating players will be able to make a good decision. In this way people can win most of the time at these best online casino Canada games. People who choose these sites should never forget to look out for bonus offers because by using these promotional offers people can save a lot of money which will otherwise go into the bank account of organizations running these businesses from across the world.
Therefore, choosing a platform where you feel more comfortable playing with your favorite music track is a very important factor. But it does not mean you forget about your game strategy because these online casino games are not just for entertainment purposes they also demand some effort from the player’s side.
Music at online casinos
The music is one of the most important things in any casino game that might affect the player positively or negatively depending on the type of song that it plays. Hence, it is very much essential that careful consideration must be given to this matter.

In general, music is categorised into three types that may affect the moods of a player. These are:
Romantic songs – these songs tend to pacify people and take away their negative thoughts from their mind. They listen to them when they go through a bad or depressing phase in life and feel better about themselves.
Happy songs – upbeat tunes make a person happy and avoids giving a lot of thought on work related problems. Thus, this type of music makes a player happy and removes stress from his mind which helps him concentrate more on the game he is playing at that moment.
Sad love ballads/melancholy songs – This might be suitable at certain occasions but not all the time as it can result in a negative effect on players.
There are many other songs which should not be played by the casino operators when they want to attract high rollers so that they do not get irritated or scare them away.

You can visit online portals where a list of songs for different game categories is available with you in detail. Hence, by visiting these sites one can easily form an idea about these things beforehand and enjoy playing online casino games to win real money while listening to selected music tracks without getting into any type of trouble in future due to wrong music track played.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that music has some positive effect on people’s moods but one should always be cautious about playing some types of music while playing casino games. This is especially true for high rollers because they get easily irritated and lose their control if they feel something wrong is happening with them. This is where all the responsibility lies on casino owners that they must pick the right type of music for their players so that both parties enjoy their game without any problem.

Recording studios are a place where sound is captured during a recording. If you want to record your band playing in the studio, the sound engineer records all of the instruments individually and blends them together with a computer program during post-production. A typical producer or artist who hires a studio works directly with sound engineers [more on that later] to produce [or have produced for them] their music. In most cases an artist will be working in multiple studios around the world while they’re putting out new material, but when it comes down to it, they’ll probably spend more time in one place than another. For example, Radiohead will probably stress over every second of every minute at their home studio in Oxfordshire, but when they finish a track they feel satisfied with and head out on tour, they’ll spend most of their time at live venues and smaller studios all over the world.
(Note: There’s a bunch more to the process… but I’m trying to keep this post short. If you’d like some extra reading on how music is recorded, check out this article I wrote that covers it in more depth.)
What do recording studio owners do?
The owner of a recording studio is responsible for managing business transactions between clients (artists/producers) and his team of engineers [see below]. A lot of the work being done in a studio will never be seen by an artist – i.e., soundproofing walls or designing sound-sensitive computer programs. This means that the owner will typically be working directly with artists and engineers to plan out studio sessions, book time for musicians, set up payment plans, ensure that his team has all of the necessary materials needed to produce a song or record an artist’s voice, etc.
(Note: For more on what it takes to run a successful recording studio business click here .)
What do sound engineers do?
The role of the sound engineer is the most technical position in any recording studio. The individual responsible for capturing sounds during a session has likely spent years mastering their equipment and practicing their engineering skills. “Sound engineering is not just about placing microphones properly… but also about understanding how certain sounds need to be ‘treated’ in order to get the best from them… Engineers have to know how an instrument should sound, and have all of the equipment required to get it to sound that way”. Engineers also handle communication between bands and owners. They record what a musician needs, no more and no less. It’s their job to ensure that a studio session goes as smoothly as possible – if they’re doing this well, an artist will be able to relax knowing that they’re in good hands.
What does a recording studio offer?
A recording studio offers musicians three things: space (for instruments/voices/etc.), time (to help artists focus on creating music), and guidance (in post-production). Because studioshire hire individual engineers to work with different bands, the same studio won’t offer all of these services. Sometimes studios will have a lounge or a kitchen for musicians to relax in during long studio sessions. They may also have a music room where artists can take breaks from recording and play around with new songs they’ve written. As far as post-production goes, this is usually kept separate from parties who record their instruments or voices at the studio – that way an engineer can focus on getting the best sound possible from an artist.
What does it cost?
Recording time is typically rented by the hour – but there are often special rates for multiple-hour sessions, multiple days booked consecutively, or other packages an artist might need/want.In order to start recording, you have to book a studio time slot. There are two ways that studios can do this.
Albums
A band may purchase a block of several days – or even weeks if they’re going all out – in which engineers will be available for full-time usage of the studio. Engineers usually work on an hourly basis during these sessions. In some cases bands will record with as many as three separate engineers over the course of a few days/weeks+shipping time from one engineer to another. These guys typically show up with their own equipment and set it up themselves… making things go by faster at each session and saving the band the cost of setting everything up themselves (the studio will have the needed equipment already!)
Demos/EPs
Artists who are unsure of how long their music will require may choose to book individual hours with engineers. For example, a band might make an agreement with an engineer for 200$/hour, or 100$ every half-hour. The band is then allowed to come in anytime during that period and record as much as they want.

The quality of the music recorded in a studio depends on many factors. If the sound engineer doing the recording is talented, then they will be able to capture the best sounds possible. The acoustics of the room where you record could also play an important role. Some rooms are better than others at capturing certain frequencies, so it’s beneficial to choose wisely based on what kind of instrumentation and what style of music you’re producing.
How much does it cost to build a recording studio?
Building your own recording studio can get expensive quickly depending on how big you want it to be and how nice you want everything to look (and sound). You can get away with buying some things second-hand like keyboards or amps, but recording equipment is expensive and will likely be cheaper to buy new. You can expect to pay anywhere from $5000 – $200,000 to build a small home studio that is professional-quality.
How do you record a song with just an acoustic guitar?
This question deserves its own article because there are so many different ways of doing it! Here’s the most straightforward way: plug your guitar into a pedal board or microphone preamp, then go from there into your computer or digital recorder. If you have a good microphone, this should yield some pretty great results as long as you’re in a relatively quiet space where sound doesn’t travel around too much.
How do you record a song with just a piano?
There are many ways to go about recording a piano for a song, but the easiest is going to be through microphone placement and finding a good room for your recording session. If you have a digital piano or keyboard that has headphone outputs, then you can hook up headphones and play your instrument as quietly as possible so it doesn’t bleed into your microphones. Then, place two microphones facing the soundboard of the grand piano at different distances from it, one closer and one further away from where you think sounds best. Experiment with these placements until they sound great! You’ll want to avoid using overheads here because pianos have such an expansive sound range that trying to capture it all will likely make your recording sound unrealistic.
Then, it’s just a matter of finding the best room for this kind of instrument to record in! You can read more about that here .
How do you record one instrument at a time?
This is where multiple microphones come into play. If you’re taping an acoustic guitar or keyboard, then start by putting one microphone in front of the instrument and experiment with positioning until you get the sound that sounds best to you. Then put another microphone facing the opposite direction (acoustic guitars are especially prone to getting “phasey” so try moving your second mic 90 degrees away from the first). Play them both together and see if there are any weird cancelations or doubling up of sound. If so, you’ll have to experiment with moving the microphones until it sounds good. Record this way for your other instruments as well!
What kind of recording studio do music artists use?
If you’re reading this article then I assume that you are familiar with major label recording studios used by the most popular artists in the industry. The exact equipment used varies from studio to studio but they all focus on getting a clean, crisp sound that will translate well on radios and headphones. It’s not uncommon for them to use an SSL console mixing board or some other high-end piece of equipment. For digital recording, Pro Tools is one of the leading options out there due to how popular it is but other software like Logic and Cubase can work as well.
How do you record a song from scratch?
The easiest way to record a song from scratch is by either pre-writing your music or by writing some lyrics first, then coming up with some music under those words. For example, if you have some lyrics about love and heartbreak, try playing around on some instruments until the chords feel right or find a drum pattern that fits. You may also want to play around with chord progressions if you have an instrument that makes it easy for this kind of thing (i.e.: piano). Then just start laying down tracks one at a time! It’s not hard to do this yourself these days as long as you have an instrument and a computer with recording software. However, if you want to get really good recordings it’s best to hire professionals or find some friends who can help you out.

The pandemic has affected everyone worldwide. The restaurant and cultural sectors have suffered significantly from the restrictions and some figures are terrifying. For example, in Finland, 93% of cultural operators have reported a reduction in job opportunities and assignments over the past year, and no wonder – with smaller ensembles, gigs may not depend very much on restaurant opening hours, while big stadium concerts of well-known bands and artists could not be held due to constraints and public safety. The situation has called for creative solutions for those who support themselves with music.

Streaming – Concerts from a home sofa

As the population began to realize as early as 2020 that the situation would not improve anyway in the coming weeks – or even months – alternative ways were started to get musicians back on stage and music lovers to enjoy live performances again. Streaming concerts are certainly not a completely new invention, developed exclusively in the midst of a pandemic, but it now had to be relied on much more heavily than before.

59% of cultural operators have reported that their artistic working methods have changed during the constraints. It is quite clearly a completely different thing to perform face to face in front of an audience so that they participate in creating the general atmosphere and the performer is able to follow their reactions during the concert all the time. There have been a wide variety of distance concerts; in some cases, the band has been present at a concert venue, such as an empty bar or music club, and the broadcast has been filmed there. Others have performed, for example, in their own training room or even at home, thus making the performance more intimate.

Remote concerts are often paid, especially as they have become more common and have replaced traditional live concerts. A ticket for a remote event is purchased in the same way as for any other performance and is redeemed by logging in to the selected streaming site with the IDs provided by the event ticketing service. Some artists have also considered small-scale free concerts purely to the delight of their fans, or payment may have been voluntary and of an optional amount. In these cases, viewers have often wanted to support the artist in difficult times and pay according to their abilities.

There is often a chat option next to the event, so you can communicate with other attendees just like at a real gig. Of course, the atmosphere brought by a completely real live concert on remote connections cannot be obtained at all, but it is a well-functioning fallback option.

Auxiliary sales from albums to clothes and accessories

The majority of people today consume music mostly in digital form, so ticket sales are an increasingly significant part of a musician’s livelihood. When ticket sales collapsed, we have had to look for sales elsewhere. For example, although the CD is rather dead, there has been some sort of upward trend in physical copy among music enthusiasts. More and more artists are releasing their music on LPs or in some cases even C-cassettes, as these are in new demand among collectors as the retro becomes a trendy phenomenon. In particular, the audience of smaller but cult-popular indie artists often appreciates physical copy, and records and cassettes are quickly bought out.

Tote bags and t-shirts have been as guaranteed sales success as before, if invested in their print, it is unique and eye-catching. The pandemic has also brought a new small niche in the sale of by-products, face masks. The smarter the accessory, the more guaranteed the sale. In addition to traditional shirts, bags, hats, and fabric brands, artists have designed yoga mats, underwear, and belt bags, for example.

Finally, live – together but safely

In the summer, the situation finally started to look a little better, which is why some live concerts were dared to be organized. Of course, most of the summer festivals were still postponed until next year, as these are such large-scale mass events that it would not have been responsible to organize them yet. Restrictions had not yet been completely lifted, but cultural operators were developing ways around them to organize concerts without endangering human health.

The number of customers at music clubs was limited, personal space was maintained and most of the guests were vaccinated. The precondition for the realization of the concert was often that all members of the audience had a seat, which was better able to take care of the personal space. While this certainly didn’t quite match the concert experience of the past, the return to live gigs was a real salvation for many music lovers at all. People’s desire to come together in a community to experience music will hardly ever disappear, but it remains to be seen whether online concerts have become an established part of the arts and culture sector alongside it.

The path of a novice musician is often long, rocky, and financially uncertain. The members of the Swedish punk band Lepra felt ready for the recording studio, but the musicians who had been practicing in an affordable training room for a long time did not know where to start. Already, a significant amount of money had been spent on musical instruments, amplifiers, and accessories over the years but money and fame had not come yet. The daily rent for recording studios in the Stockholm area is typically anything from a hundred euros upwards, in addition to which the musicians have to pay for the venue. Prices can vary a lot, as some studios also include mixing and mastering, while others only offer their guests soundproofed space, musical instruments, and recording equipment.

In smaller city studios, the rent may be lower, but in this case, the travel and accommodation costs will be included. Even if it is a project started with passion and love, the realities of real life very quickly change the picture: how to finance it all?

Visibility and networking – an advantage for an unknown artist

It’s hard to ask anyone for money for a product that doesn’t yet exist. Free gigs may well be played for visibility, but potential listeners would be better reached if, after the performance, it was possible to purchase a ready-made single album or listen to songs from some streaming service. Recording an album, on the other hand, requires money that isn’t there because nothing gets sold. The sad vicious circle is complete.

Of course, playing free gigs may seem like you don’t get a fair reward for your work, a performance that also includes all those hours spent making and practicing music and the money invested in quality instruments. However, visibility plays a big role in a musician’s success, and in the end, it may even earn. Once the band has a reputation among their own subculture, they can, at best, finance their activities with, for example, crowdfunding or pre-sales.

Crowdfunding is modern and raises attention and funds for many successful projects.

Lepra toured for a long time. They took every opportunity offered and marketed their band themselves for many events, allowing them to enter local music circles. Relationships play a big role in the creative industries, as the word rushes fast. When Lepra finally got their crowdfunding site, they promised every supporter more than € 20 from their band’s first single as soon as it was recorded. This was the first step on the way to renting a recording studio.

Dare to invest – credit for future success

After finding visibility, Lepra set out to plan a small tour in southern Sweden for a week after the single’s release date. They started from their hometown of Stockholm, where they managed to book gigs for themselves for two separate evenings, and then moved to Malmö and Gothenburg. The plan was to sell as many singles as possible during the gigs, but in order to make it happen, they had to invest money in travel and accommodation, for example, as well as a spacious package that would accommodate all the instruments. The crowdfunding had raised some of the amount needed for the studio, and it was daring to set out to plan the trip before the single was even out.

At this point, the band had to think about how much they were willing to invest in the future of their project. They needed a recording studio and a mixer for an estimated two weeks, which would cost them a total of about 3,000 euros, or 30,000 Swedish kronor. They had about half of the amount collected at this point. On the other hand, they were also sure that sales and even paid gigs will happen, as long as they got something concrete to offer their listeners. So, their next step was to apply for a loan. Known for their precision and accuracy, even being punks, Swedes decided to act carefully. The band’s vocalist and lead character Tobias Blom familiarized first with the terms of some loans, even including OPR corporate loans or OPR företagslån as they call it in Swedish. It was important for the whole band to find a form of financing for their project that would cover all the remaining costs, i.e. the rest of the rental of the recording studio as well as the needs of the upcoming mini-tour. The loan seemed the most straightforward solution at this point.

“We browsed through all the loan providers about which Foretagslan Finance had information. We sent applications to really many parties and therefore we also got a lot of negative responses. For us, granting a loan was probably a pretty daring thing, but we’re really grateful that someone finally dared to take the risk. We got the single recorded and sold almost every song at our gigs” – says the band’s vocalist Blom.
